Owschlag can be explored via a themed local network of trails: seven circular hiking trails and six circular cycling routes are complemented by 25 information boards. The boards cover natural history, geography, archaeology and village history. An overview board is located at the bus and train stop; an orientation map is available from the municipality and at the regional tourist information offices.

Trails and Water

Southeast of Owschlag, there is a municipal bathing area on Lake Owschlag with a meadow, playground, fire pit, brick-built barbecue and shelter. Depending on the season, visitors can swim, sunbathe and relax there.

By prior appointment, you can explore historic agriculture at De lütte Oldtimer Schüün and observe the restoration of old machines. The private museum also displays tractors and agricultural machinery from earlier times in active use.

Nature

The Owschlag Moor is part of the Binnendünen and Moorland Landscape in the Sorge Valley bird sanctuary and is an important habitat for breeding birds. The moor is associated with the red-backed shrike, crane and snipe, which are listed as bird species of conservation importance. Lake Owschlag is also part of the Owschlag Lake FFH protected area, EU site number 1623-306.
