Culture and History

The Shell House is a house decorated with shells. Nearby is the Schalenstein, an approximately two-metre-high granite block with cup marks created by humans, which is considered a prehistoric sacrificial stone.

The Hohenwestedt Local History Museum is housed in the listed Burmesterhaus, a craftsman's house dating from the late 18th century. The exhibitions focus on life and work in a village in central Holstein and include art as well as cultural and regional historical displays.

The wider regional area around Hohenwestedt is also home to the Schalenstein cultural monument, the Schanze cultural monument, St. George's Church in Jevenstedt and Wichern Church in Neumünster.

Nature and Activities

Hohenwestedt has a 5.5-hectare public park with walking paths and benches, a nature and adventure trail, and the Falkenburg recreation area with woodland and ponds. There are also numerous local hiking trails and a heated outdoor swimming pool for relaxation.

The surrounding area of Hohenwestedt includes Boxberg, Leinberg, Tönsberg and Langer Berg.

Events and Leisure

The public park is the venue for regularly recurring cultural and leisure events, including a medieval festival, equestrian and carriage-driving events, as well as the Park Festival held during Hohenwestedt Week.
