Holtsee: Hotels and Accommodations
There is a small beach on the lake in the village of Holtsee. There is also a network of hiking trails and a forest nature trail. The Kiel Canal runs south of the municipality, while Lake Wittensee lies west of Holtsee.
Cycling
The district publishes an overview of 12 themed routes and 5 e-bike tours. The easy Cycling Route 2 is approximately 45.7 kilometers long and takes around 4.5 hours. It crosses the Hüttener Berge landscape and circles Lake Wittensee. The route “Cycling Route 2 – Wittensee–Goosefeld–Holtsee–Kiel Canal” can be started in Holtsee and divided into two shorter sections.
Cycling Route 10 – Gettorf–Landwehr–Holtsee starts in Gettorf, follows the Kiel Canal, and passes through meadows and fields as well as the Hüttener Berge Nature Park. In the vicinity of Holtsee, Cycling Route 2 follows the Kiel Canal, where cyclists can watch cruise ships and container ships. Cycling Route 2 is considered accessible by train and bus.
Culture and Refreshments
Holtsee’s local cheese experience combines traditional cheese production with a nearby factory outlet. Visitors can get coffee and cheese rolls there, sit on a terrace, and buy Holtsee cheeses. The district’s themed day tours combine regional history with stops at cafés, restaurants, and a cheese dairy.
Visiting and Refreshments
At Eiderhufe, overnight accommodation is available in a hay hostel or in rooms. The Eiderhufe café serves visitors on Sundays and public holidays. Groups can visit the large cheese dairy in Holtsee by prior arrangement.
