Eckernförde has a Baltic Sea town beach with fine sand that is four kilometres long. Boats and ships are moored at the harbour. Windebyer Noor is considered a natural inland lake associated with Eckernförde.
Town and Water
Eckernförde's town harbour is located directly on the long beach promenade and close to the old town and town centre. The harbour, shopping streets, beach and fish restaurants are all close together. At the town harbour, fish sandwiches are available directly from the fishing boats.
Culture
Eckernförde offers a year-round programme of music, literature, theatre and art. St. Nicolai Church is a brick-built hall church in the pedestrian zone. It was built in the early 13th century as a towerless Romanesque church. Historical tombs and ship models can be seen inside.
Borby Church has an architecturally notable old tower room. As you approach Eckernförde, it is visible as a distinctive landmark.
Leisure
The Meerwasser Wellenbad and Hot-Spot Sauna are located directly on the beach promenade and offer swimming and sauna activities all year round. At the Bonbonkocherei, sweets and chocolate are made by hand. The Ostseegolf golf course has 18 holes. Ostseegolf is a family activity.
