Coast

Nature

Most of the Schwansener See nature reserve lies within Dörphof. It covers 240 hectares and includes reed beds, salt marshes, damp depressions, a beach ridge, and shallow Baltic Sea waters. At the same time, it is part of the Natura 2000 network.

In autumn and spring, many waterbirds and waders use the Schwansener See area for resting and foraging. During the day, the lake also serves as a sleeping site for pochards and tufted ducks.

Visitors are asked to keep quiet near nesting birds. During the breeding season from March 15 to July 17, visitors must not leave the designated paths or enter the beach ridge.

Culture and History

The ruins of Edelsturm, the “Marine-Ehrenmal, Laboe” naval memorial, and Haithabu are located in the wider regional surroundings of Dörphof.
