Coast and Golf in Wittenbeck

On the coast of Wittenbeck, beaches, cliffs and sporting opportunities come together. Wittenbeck borders the “Kühlung” landscape protection area to the southwest and the “Wittenbecker Tannen” to the east. Sporting activities include a golf complex with an 18-hole course and two 9-hole courses. There is also a roughly 2.5-kilometre-long natural beach with cliffs approximately 4 to 8 metres high. Forests and Stream Valleys

The approximately 180-hectare “Gespensterwald” belongs to the Stolteraa nature reserve. Along the 7- to 9-metre-high cliffs, it offers opportunities for extensive walks, cycling trips and horseback rides.

The source valley of the Glashäger Bach contains spring marshes, mineral-soil meadows and lowland moor meadows. The stream is accompanied by alders and ash trees as well as sedges and rushes. The source valley has been designated a natural monument (FND) since 1984. A nature-focused circular hike through the source valley is approximately 8 kilometres long, takes 4 hours and includes a coffee break in Glashagen. Hütter Wohld lies approximately 5 km southeast of Bad Doberan. The forested area covers 350 hectares, features wooded elevations of up to 90 m and deep stream valleys, and was designated a nature reserve in 1999 and a European protected area (FFH area) in 2004. A nature-focused guided tour through Hütter Wohld follows the chain of ponds created by the Cistercian monks. Village Churches and Workshops

The church in Rethwisch was probably built between 1306 and 1312 and, as a three-aisled stepped hall, is an example of North German Brick Gothic. It contains a valuable winged altarpiece with a Crucifixion scene in the central panel dating from 1530. The church in Retschow features a depiction of a mill that is considered unique among village churches throughout Germany. Both churches add a cultural and historical accent alongside the landscape experiences.

In the small village of Glashagen Ausbau, four local artists work in workshops for pottery, glassblowing, porcelain and driftwood. Visitors can view the works and, where appropriate, purchase them. In addition to nature and the coast, this gives you an insight into a range of traditional crafts. The four workshops each have their own focus on materials and techniques in the small village.
