Retschow is situated in a hilly landscape between Bad Doberan, Kröpelin and Satow and borders the Kühlung ridge to the southeast. The municipality lies southwest of Bad Doberan, covers 19 km² and consists of the districts of Retschow, Glashagen, Stülow and Fulgenkoppel.

Landscape

The Glashagen Spring is located near Retschow. The combination of the hilly countryside and the Kühlung ridge adjoining it to the southeast defines the geographical setting of the town.

History

Retschow was first mentioned in a document in 1233; the town's name is derived from Slavic settlers. Another historical connection is with the Wars of Liberation: a battle took place near the town on 28 August 1813.
