Penkow: Hotels and Accommodations
The village pond on Federal Highway 192 is a characteristic local landmark of Penkow. The intersection on the B192 provides road connections toward Land Fleesensee, Waren, Malchow, and Kisserow.
History
Penkow was first mentioned in a document in 1309. Over several centuries, the history of the village has been closely associated with Malchow Abbey.
Nature
The Klostermühlbach stream runs through the Penkow area and has been restored through environmental protection measures. Near Kisserow, nine prehistoric burial mounds are protected as archaeological monuments. Along the Kisserow–Walow road, an area of approximately one hectare containing rare globeflowers is also protected as a nature reserve.
Geographical Setting
The surrounding area of Penkow is home to Schwenzin Castle, Axenberg, and the Affenwald Malchow summer toboggan run. Kirch Poppentin, Heidberg, and Trostberg are located nearby. Further afield in the region are Ringwall and Meyenburg Castle.
