Tidaholm between industrial history and river landscapes
The Tidaholm Museum is located in the former factory premises of Vulcan's industry on Vulcanön and tells how Tidaholm developed as an industrial town. The permanent exhibition explains how the Vulcan match factory and industrialization shaped the town.
Industry and culture
Vulcan's old smithy has been preserved as a living industrial monument. Food, tools and work surfaces illustrate the working environment around 1900; smithing courses are also held in the smithy. Another exhibition venue is Tidaholms konsthall, housed in a former turbine building constructed on the Tidan River in 1898. It presents changing art exhibitions in spring, summer and autumn.
In the museum's C-Magasin, the exhibition “Tidaholms bruks bilar” displays nine preserved vehicles. On Turbinhusön, the Museistugan conveys what life was like in the 18th and 19th centuries through several smithies furnished in period style. The smithies can be visited in summer.
River landscapes
The Tidan River runs through Tidaholm, and most of the town's central parks are located along the river. Turbinhusön is a preserved cultural landscape on the banks of the Tidan in central Tidaholm and has a long riverside promenade. The Strandpromenaden runs between Östra Drottningvägen and the Tidan River; tall trees, lawns and plantings characterize this section.
At Bruksvilleparken, you can walk along the Tidan, take a coffee break and use the barbecue area with tables and seating. In summer, there is entertainment on the outdoor stage. Fishing is also possible in the Tidan in central Tidaholm, for which a fishing permit is required. On Turbinhusön, Handelsboden offers locally produced products and local handicrafts in summer.
Activities
Aktivitetsrundan on Hellidsberget is a 2.5-kilometre exercise trail with twelve signs and exercises for children and adults. The trails on Hellidsberget are prepared for cross-country skiing in winter. There is also an easy, 10-kilometre circular mountain bike trail, beginning at the trail centre by SISU-stugan.
Norra Rundan passes through forest landscapes, open fields and grazing land and offers diverse wildlife, including grazing cows and rare bird species.
