Tidaholm: Industrial heritage and paths along the Tidan
Accommodation in Tidaholm
Tidaholm combines industrial history with walking paths along the Tidan. The river flows through the town; Tidaholms museum and Visit Tidaholm are located on Vulcanön in the centre. This gives you two complementary themes to consider when planning your trip: the museum explores industrialisation and everyday working life, while outdoors you can enjoy riverside paths and historic sites. Turbinhusön adds furnished living environments. When choosing a base for your trip, you can decide whether cultural history or time outdoors should take priority.
Industrial history on Vulcanön
The permanent exhibition at Tidaholms museum explains how industrialisation, work and working people shaped Tidaholm. Particular attention is given to the daily lives of women and children at work. The museum is located on Vulcanön in the centre and tells the story of Tidaholm as an industrial town in Vulcan’s former factory premises. Today, the museum’s C-Magasin displays nine surviving vehicles from Tidaholms bruk. Vulcans gamla smedja was built in 1871 and was a central part of Vulcan’s match factory.
Living environments on Turbinhusön
Turbinhusön is located in the centre of Tidaholm, on the banks of the Tidan, and is a well-preserved cultural landscape with a long riverside promenade. Museistugan is a simple home with furnished living environments from around the turn of the 19th century. One part shows a poor home, the other a more prosperous one. The contrast draws attention to differing living conditions and complements the industrial history with a domestic perspective.
Walks and time by the river
The historic Stadsvandring i Tidaholm walk starts on Vulcanön, follows the Tidan to Turbinhusön, and returns past several historic sites in the town centre. Signs provide information about places of cultural and historical interest, giving the route a clear historical focus.
Bruksvilleparken offers opportunities to enjoy a coffee and walk along the Tidan. The park has a barbecue area with tables and seating, as well as an outdoor stage where entertainment is offered in summer. Ånastigen is also a popular walking path along the Tidan; it lies south of Stallängsskogen.
