Tranemo between glassmaking history, marshes and hiking trails

Glasets Hus at Limmareds Glasbruk combines a glassworks, glass museum, exhibition hall, event spaces, activity park and restaurant in one cultural center. Limmareds Glasbruk is Sweden's oldest glassworks still in operation and was founded in 1740. At Glasets Hus, you can watch glassblowers at work and book an appointment to try glassblowing yourself. Culture

Mossebo Church is also part of the region's cultural history. Joseph Hansson completed the church in 1773; inside, you can see pictorial depictions of biblical stories and an original portrait of Joseph Hansson. It is also home to one of the few surviving chandeliers from Limmareds Glasbruk, manufactured in 1855.

At Torpa Stenhus, visitors can take guided tours of the castle, attend castle theater and visit craftspeople. The castle has a café and a restaurant serving food made from seasonal ingredients and based on the castle's centuries-old hunting traditions; game dishes are often the focus.

Nature

The landscape of Tranemo Municipality includes open cultural landscapes, barren marshes, deep mixed forests and numerous lakes. One notable marsh area is Komosse södra, with the marshes Bohestramossen, Johansjömossen and Fiskerydsmossen on the border between Västergötland and Småland. The marshes are largely treeless, while larger pools are concentrated in the southern part of Johansjömossen. Komosse södra is a Natura 2000 protected area jointly managed by the municipalities of Tranemo and Ulricehamn.

About 300 meters of Komosse's boardwalk have been widened and fitted with a side edge to prevent strollers and wheelchairs from rolling off. The path leads to a platform with a fire pit and several accessibility-adapted benches. In the Torpa–Hofsnäs area at Yttre Åsunden in Tranemo Municipality, numerous rare and Red Listed lichens, fungi and wood-boring insects live, especially those associated with old oaks. More than 130 bird species have been recorded around Lake Torpasjön near Torpanäset.

The Hofsnäs nature trails are located in the Torpanäset Nature Reserve. Old oaks, pastureland and species-rich ground flora characterize the area, which provides a habitat for the endangered and Red Listed hermit beetle.

Hiking and trails

The trails in and around Tranemo range from short circular routes to longer stretches. The Björnöleden is a little more than four kilometers long, starts at the parking area near Mörkö and runs mostly along a wooden boardwalk as a circular route. The Jälmåleden runs for 35 kilometers through Tranemo Municipality. It allows visitors to combine hiking with paddling on the Jälmån; it also passes several points of interest, including Viking-era burial grounds and ruins from the industrial era of the 19th century.

The Marjeboleden is a seven-kilometer-long, easy-to-walk route along Lake Marjebosjön and can also be used with a stroller. Along the trail, information boards provide details about historical sites, including iron production and Marie Abbey. The route also passes a bathing area and a barbecue area by the lake, offering views across Lake Marjebosjön.

The Hofsnäs nature trails consist of three easy-to-walk circular routes between 1 and 4.8 kilometers long; the shortest trail is accessibility-adapted. The trails start at a parking area in Tranemo Municipality. The nearest bus stop is in Länghem, about five kilometers from the trails.

Cycling and water

The visitor activities in Tranemo Municipality include fishing, hiking, cycling and paddling. At Kroksjöns fiskecamp, anglers can enjoy put-and-take fishing for rainbow trout. The bathing area at Lake Tranemosjön in Tranemo has a jetty, bathing platform, lawns, a toilet, a boat dock, tables and benches, as well as a beach volleyball court.

For cycling tours, Ätradalsleden runs for 199 kilometers as a national cycle route between Falköping and Falkenberg. Ninety-five kilometers run along former railway embankments that are completely free of motor traffic. When riding rail bikes, visitors can stop at the rest area near Holmåkra, about four kilometers to the south, to take a break, drink coffee and go swimming.
