Ambjörnarp: Rail bikes, lakes and local history
Accommodation in Ambjörnarp
The Ambjörnarp–Sjötofta rail bike route follows an old railway line from Landeryd to Falköping and represents the active side of the destination. There are also paths by the water, bathing spots and details of the church. The offerings differ in length and character, providing various points of reference for planning.

Rail bike ride along the old railway line
The one-way rail bike route from Ambjörnarp to Sjötofta is 7 km long. Rail bikes are rented through Ambjörnarps Byalag; advance booking is required. So plan this ride in advance. At Holmåkrasjön, 4 km to the south, there is a rest area with barbecue and bathing facilities along the rail bike route. The old railway track and the option of a break by the water are among the route’s distinctive features.
Hiking between lakeshores and history
The Store-Malen runt route follows the shore of Lake Store-Malen through a forest landscape and crosses bridges and boardwalks. The loop around the lake is 9 km long and rated easy; there is a car park at the starting point. Its combination of lakeshore, forest and crossings over bridges and boardwalks sets it apart from the rail bike route, which follows a one-way track between two places. Carlssons Promenad near Björnhyltans Trädgård is considerably shorter, at 1.5 km. It tells the story of the farm and local life in earlier times. This gives you different options: a path along a lakeside landscape or a walk focusing on the history of a farm and the local area.
Bathing spots and water sports
At Lake Visen in Ambjörnarp, there is a bathing spot with a jetty, diving tower, lawns, tables and benches. At Skogssjön, the Ambjörnarps Vattenskidklubb uses the lake for water skiing. On the weekend of 16 and 17 August 2025, the club hosted the Swedish Open Championships and the Para Championships in water skiing there. The bathing spot at Visen and the water sports at Skogssjön offer two different ways to enjoy the water: one is equipped for bathing, while the other is centred on the club’s activities and a past championship weekend.
Gardens, farm history and seasonal offerings
Björnhyltans Trädgård is a garden open to visitors, with a garden café, farm shop, display garden and cultural trail. The farm shop sells seasonal vegetables, and its offerings vary with the time of year. Since visitor services and seasonal activities can change, check before your visit which options are available for your dates and whether the vegetables you want are being offered. Nearby, Carlssons Promenad takes a different approach: the 1.5 km walk focuses on the history of the farm and local life in earlier times. The garden and promenade therefore combine visitor attractions with a historical perspective, although they do not cover the same subject.
Church and local history
Ambjörnarp Church is a neoclassical wooden church dating from the 1840s. Its exterior has been well preserved since it was built. The altarpiece is an oil painting made in 1895 by Bertha Maria Ahlgren from Länghem. Behind it is the original altarpiece, painted directly onto the wall, with the same subject as the one in the neighbouring parish of Sjötofta. A chandelier from the Limmared glassworks also hangs in the choir. The church thus brings together architectural history and connections to art, a neighbouring parish and regional craftsmanship. Ambjörnarp also has a bicycle museum.
