Härryda – Forests, Lakes and Cultural History

Around half of the municipality of Härryda is covered by forest and wilderness. The municipality includes Hindås, Hällingsjö, Härryda, Mölnlycke, Rävlanda and Landvetter.

Nature and Protected Areas

Rådasjön Nature Reserve encompasses the lake and the surrounding land areas, with broadleaf forests, riparian forests and open grazing land. Rådasjön is also important as a wintering site for, among others, ducks and whooper swans.

In Hårssjön-Rambo mosse Nature Reserve, broadleaf forest, riparian and swamp forests, and a mosaic landscape of bogs meet. Hårssjön is important for numerous breeding and resting bird species. The Bohusleden trail passes through the northwestern part of the area; local trails connect it in the southeast with Lahall and a trail around Finnsjön.

Härskogen Nature Reserve includes the lakes Lilla Härsjön and Stora Härsjön, where, among others, black-throated divers and red-throated divers breed. The Storån valley is of national interest both for nature conservation and cultural-environment management. Storån provides a habitat for Lygnern trout, freshwater pearl mussels, eels and brook lampreys.

Gallhålan Nature Reserve encompasses extensive oak forests, alder swamp forest, rocky pine forest and a meadow. Several bird species live at Agntjärn, including mallards, tufted ducks, goosanders and pochards.

Hiking, Cycling and Water

In Bråtaskogen Nature Reserve, the trails pass small waterfalls and the remains of old mills along Bråtabäcken and Hålsjöbäcken. A blue-marked trail of about two kilometres passes a barbecue area; a red-marked, four-kilometre trail leads to a rest area in the forest east of the meadow.

In Härskogen Nature Reserve, you can hike, swim, camp, ice-skate and ski. Several hiking trails and two illuminated routes start at the central car park; there are also shelters, fire pits and a toilet there.

Vildmarksleden is a 42-kilometre hiking trail between Hindås railway station and Skatås motionscentral in Gothenburg, passing several lakes. The approximately 19-kilometre section of Västgötaleden through Härryda passes through Rävlanda and Hindås. The approximately 12-kilometre section of Turiststråket runs via Råda towards Delsjön Nature Reserve.

Vargkullen Mountain Bike Park features a pump track, a jump area, a drop area, several trail loops, and a balance and skills area. From the Hindås canoe centre on Västra Nedsjön, an approximately ten-kilometre, relatively easy paddling route leads around the lake, with several pleasant resting places.

Swimming, recreational and sport fishing, rowing and sailing are possible on Rådasjön. Gallhålan Nature Reserve offers trails and circular routes, three barbecue areas and a waterfall nearly four metres high near Agntjärn.

Wendelsberg in Mölnlycke is a natural, cultural and recreational area of approximately 60 hectares, offering opportunities for walking, exercising, playing disc golf and barbecuing.

Culture and History

The present main building of Råda Säteri was built in 1772. Råda Säteri was declared a listed building in 1969 and is subject to special protection regulations.

The Hindås ski jumps have existed since the beginning of the 20th century. Due to their particularly high cultural and historical value, they are classified as listed buildings and form part of the sporting history of Härryda and Gothenburg.

Danseredsbron in Härryda is a stone arch bridge leading to Danseredsliden. This old section of road illustrates the route and construction methods of roads before the age of the automobile.

Risbohult Nature Reserve preserves a mill ruin, the remains of dams and a stone wall that may have been part of an old cattle track. The smallholding of HÃ¥ltet preserves a small-scale farming landscape from the forest region in the 18th and 19th centuries, with visible strips of cultivated land, fences, old paths, clearance cairns and house foundations.

The cholera cemetery at Heden in Rävlanda was established in connection with the cholera epidemic of the 1830s; 27 rectangular depressions mark the graves.

Landvetter Church has largely 14th-century walls in the nave, a pulpit with original parts from 1685 and a soapstone baptismal font from the late 13th century. Råda Church in Mölnlycke is a well-preserved 18th-century wooden church, built in 1712, with preserved ceiling paintings.
