Tibro: Nature Trails, Glass Workshop and Furniture Museum
Rankås is a recreational area surrounded mainly by pine forest, situated on a glacial gravel ridge, and offers hiking, exercise and cycling trails. Rankås is also home to Jättens stig, a child- and family-friendly trail with nature activities that change with the seasons.
Nature and Trails
An approximately 9.5-kilometre walking and cycling trail connects the centre of Tibro with Fagersanna and follows the former route of the Karlsborgsbanan railway. The first 1.7 kilometres of Ã…-leden are accessible to wheelchairs and pushchairs. Along Ã…-leden there are several fishing spots, jetties, as well as barbecue and picnic areas.
Water and Activities
Fishing, paddling and water skiing are possible on Lake Örlen. In Tibro, various species of fish can be caught in Lake Örlen or the Tidan River. This means that different bodies of water and activities are available side by side: Å-leden combines the trail route with fishing spots and picnic areas, while Örlen additionally offers paddling and water skiing.
Culture and History
Balterydsgården is a well-preserved example of a large farm from the period around the Swedish land consolidation. Balteryd Hembygdsgård includes a fully functioning old smithy from Orrebo. Balterydsgården hosts themed exhibitions and a traditional Midsummer celebration.
Brännhults hembygdsgård has its origins in the 17th century and comprises two comparable residential buildings, outbuildings and a peat hut that was relocated here. A waffle day is held there in early summer, followed in August by a local heritage festival with various activities.
The Tibro Museum presents the development of the town from small workshops located next to furniture makers’ homes to large-scale industrial furniture production and includes an authentic workshop from the 1920s. A visit to the Tibro Furniture Museum can be booked. The museum displays furniture made in Tibro during various periods.
Brittgården is a modernist residential development in Tibro, built between 1959 and 1969 and designed by architect Ralph Erskine. Brittgården is valued for its cultural and architectural historical significance, as well as the unusual layouts of its apartments.
In the wider regional area around Tibro, Ã…reberg lies north of the town centre at a point where the Tidan divides into three branches. The well-preserved industrial setting there includes several important industrial heritage sites.
Tibro Glasverkstad is located in the old railway station building and sells glass made in Tibro. It also offers guided glassblowing; visitors can take their own creation home with them.
Ateljé Blocking is the exhibition space of the Tibro Art Association. Works by local and national artists are exhibited at Ateljé Blocking. Tidebergsbron is a three-span stone bridge over the Tidan at Smuleberg, built in 1914. At the western bridge abutment, remains of Tibro kvarn can be seen in the form of foundations and machine parts.
Family and Leisure
At Tibro Mini-Zoo, visitors can see and get close to goats, sheep, pigs, chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs and ducks. The mini-zoo has picnic areas and a barbecue area.
Tibro Actionpark is open day and night throughout the year and can be used for trying out skateboard or bicycle tricks. Tibro has two disc golf courses: an 18-basket course at Ã…naplan and a 9-basket course near FÃ¥gelviksslingan.
