Hindås offers travelers three distinct points of interest: hiking trails, the paddling opportunities provided by Hindås Kanotklubb and culture in the centrally located station building. If you are looking for accommodation in Hindås, you can first consider whether hiking, water activities or culture should shape your stay. The differences become clear in the route lengths, the interconnected lake system and the area’s history.

Hiking trails on different scales

The 42-kilometer Vildmarksleden starts at Hindås railway station and ends at Skatås motionscentral in Gothenburg. The 140-kilometer Sjuhäradsleden also starts there and leads to Mullsjö. At 140 kilometers, it is more than three times as long as Vildmarksleden. The starting point, total distance and destination therefore provide concrete points of comparison when considering a hiking route for your stay. Sjuhäradsleden passes through changing landscapes of forest, agricultural land and urban areas. Hindås Skidklubb is responsible for the section of this trail located in Härryda Municipality.

Klippan: nature reserve and farm history

Klippan Nature Reserve is located near Hindås. A marked trail system starts at Hindåsgården and passes through the eastern parts of Klippan. The Klippan farm, called Assaretorp before 1908, is one of the oldest farms in Hindås and Björketorp parish. The buildings, now in disrepair, have stood there since at least 1811; the foundations, a hearth wall and a tall chimney stack remain as ruins of the farmhouse and barn. Here, a marked trail and tangible remnants of the farm’s history sit side by side for those interested in nature and history.

Paddling on the interconnected lake system

Östra Nedsjön is connected to Västra Nedsjön by a canal. This means the paddling opportunities in Hindås can also be considered in terms of the two interconnected lakes. At the northern end of Östra Nedsjön, Hindås Kanotklubb has its own property at Orreviken “Tomten”, with a wind shelter on a sandy beach.

Hindås Kanotklubb offers kayaks, canoes, SUP, surfski and dragon boats. Together, the club and Kanotcentralen form a recognized canoe center with canoe rentals. Rental arrangements may vary; check the current options before your visit. Every summer, the club runs a popular canoeing school. If you would like to include it in your plans, check the current summer dates.

Culture in the town center

The culturally and historically significant station building is centrally located in the town center. Numerous municipal and private cultural events take place there throughout the year; some events are seasonal. A ceiling painting in a church in Hindås was created in the summer of 1923 by art professor Ernst Pfannschmidt.

One concrete seasonal distinction is that the canoeing school takes place in summer, while the station building hosts cultural events throughout the year. If a particular event is central to your visit, check its date.
