Härryda: Cultural Heritage and Vildmarksleden
Accommodation in Härryda
When choosing a stay in Härryda, you can focus on architectural and local history or a hike along Vildmarksleden. The historical landmarks range from a stone arch bridge to a church with furnishings from different centuries. Former transport routes and the use of the Mölndalsån add to this perspective.
The church and earlier architectural history
Danseredsbron is a stone arch bridge in Härryda. Here, the focus is on its architectural form; Härryda kyrka adds a perspective on building history that encompasses both a predecessor and the present-day church. The current stone church was completed in 1850 in the Neoclassical style, on the foundations of an earlier church. This means that both an older church building and the 19th-century design are part of the area's architectural history.
The church's furnishings also span a period extending beyond the 1850 building. The altarpiece dates from 1693, while the baptismal font was probably made in the second half of the 13th century. This makes it possible to distinguish different periods in the same church interior: the present-day Neoclassical church, the 17th-century altarpiece and the much older baptismal font, whose date is only approximate. The varying degrees of certainty in these dates are important when placing the objects in their historical context.
Routes, valley and local history
Danseredsliden is another trace of the past: it forms part of the old road between Härryda and Skene. Unlike the individual buildings, the focus here is on the historic connection between two places. Härryda sockencentrum is situated on a rise above the Mölndalsån valley. This elevated location provides another point of reference for local history, which is not revealed by individual buildings alone.
Historically, Härryda sockencentrum had a mill and a sawmill. These uses add an economic-history perspective on everyday working life in the past to the religious and architectural evidence.
Another historical building is Häradsdomarens gård. The well-preserved old building was constructed before 1780; original paintings survive on the walls of the upper floor. Today, it is a local heritage museum cared for by the Härryda hembygdsförening. Its construction date, wall paintings and present-day use bring together different historical layers.
Hiking on Vildmarksleden
For active days, Vildmarksleden offers a distinct option. The trail is mostly easy, but has some hilly sections. When assessing the hike for yourself, it is therefore worth considering both parts of the description: its generally easy character and the specified hilly sections. This gives you a more accurate picture than relying on just one difficulty rating.
One route to Vildmarksleden starts in Härryda samhälle: take bus 611 to the Härryda kyrka stop; from there, follow Härsjödammsvägen on foot for 3 km towards Härsjödamm. The route crosses the road before Stora Härsjön. Check the timetable before travelling.
