Ellös – Swimming Area, Viewpoint and Boatbuilding
Ellös between Sea Views and Boatbuilding
Ellös combines maritime insights with walking paths, swimming experiences and excursions into the surrounding landscape. When choosing your destination, the combination of sea views and boatbuilding is particularly interesting: From the viewpoint near Ellös, you can see across the Ellösfjord and the sea, while the town’s long-standing boatbuilding tradition continues to shape it to this day. The shipyard industry also remains important to Ellös.
The maritime side can be experienced through various activities. The boat tours by Mareblå & Havsguiderna depart from the steamboat pier in Ellös guest harbor. The offerings also include a three-hour deep-sea fishing tour. At Öppet Varv, visitors can watch boats being built live. Ellös therefore offers different ways to experience the water: from views across the fjord to observing boatbuilding and taking a longer trip out onto the open sea.
Walking Paths with Different Profiles
For a shorter walk, the Hälsoslingan in Ellös is suitable. The route is 1.2 to 1.4 kilometers long and is specifically suitable for walking. Those looking for a longer hike classified as difficult will find the Husebyleden in Ellös, a 3.5-kilometer-long trail. The two routes therefore differ not only in length but also in their documented level of difficulty.
The Husebyleden can be located using prominent points along Road 178 between Varekil and Ellös. Shortly before Ellös, turn toward Hälleviksstrand. After 50 meters, there is a parking area on the left with the sign “Fornborg”; the trail begins on the other side of the road. From Ellös, a walking path also leads to a viewpoint. From there, the view opens out across the Ellösfjord and the sea. Those who want to combine exercise and views during their stay can therefore choose between a short walking route, a difficult hiking trail and the path to the viewpoint.
Sörkilen Swimming Area for Beach and Family Days
Sörkilen swimming area is a child-friendly bathing spot in Ellös. Directly on the beach there is a playground with a slide, a large sandbox and swings. There is also a jetty for crab fishing. This equipment makes the swimming area a place where swimming, playing and a simple maritime activity can be combined.
For visitors with mobility difficulties, Sörkilen swimming area has a ramp and an accessible staircase. These specific access features supplement the information about the playground and jetty and are relevant when choosing a suitable beach destination.
A Place with Everyday Public Life
The Ellös library is also part of the townscape. It is both a public library and a school library. At certain times, the library offers access without staff being present. This feature is part of the local infrastructure and distinguishes a visit to the library from a classic excursion destination: Access is limited to certain times and is then available without staff being present.
Those who want to compare Ellös with other destinations from the same selection can find Gullholmen, Mollösund, Varekil, Nosund, Svanesund, Stillingsön and Käringön here.
