Aalborg combines maritime culture, urban history and nature experiences in clearly defined facets. At Aalborg’s waterfront, the Utzon Center combines architecture, design and art with exhibitions and conferences, meetings and culinary experiences. Art, Seafaring and Urban History

The Kunsten Museum of Modern Art Aalborg has a collection of almost 4,000 works of modern and contemporary art spanning more than 100 years of art history. The museum was designed by Alvar Aalto with the support of Elissa Aalto and Jean-Jacques Baruël. Most exhibition halls use natural, indirect light wherever possible; the building is designed to distribute the light softly. At Springeren – Maritimt Oplevelsescenter, you can enter a submarine and explore model ships illustrating Aalborg’s maritime history.

The Gråbrødrekloster Museet is located three metres below Algade and, as an underground museum, presents the history of Aalborg’s Greyfriars Monastery. The monastery stood there from its construction in the 1240s until its dissolution in 1530. At the Aalborg Historiske Museum, the city’s history stretches from around the year 750, when Aalborg emerged in connection with a trading site on the former Østerå, to the later prospering industrial city.

Music, Street Art and Food

Musikkens Hus is home to the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra, which attracts international soloists and guest conductors to Aalborg. Nordkraft is a cultural and leisure centre created by converting a former power station. Its facilities include a theatre, two concert halls for rhythmic music, a cinema, exhibition spaces, an art school and extensive sports facilities. Aalborg’s street art can be explored on a self-planned tour featuring more than 50 murals. The Lighthouse is Aalborg’s first permanent street-food market and offers food from all over the world.

Nature, Trails and the Limfjord

Østerådalen Nord is a protected natural area of approximately 100 hectares in the immediate vicinity of Aalborg Centrum. The Østerådalstien runs as a cycling and hiking trail from Aalborg Centrum through Østerådalen Nord and South to Dall Møllevej near Svanemølleparken in Svenstrup. In some sections, it follows the Hærvejen, a national and international cycling route.

Vestre Fjordpark is a 16.5-hectare park directly on the Limfjord. The park includes a Tarzan course in the water, a forest course with a zip line, a water playground, trampolines and a slide on the roof of the lifeguard building. Vestre Fjordpark also has a rooftop playground with jumping equipment, a slide and a large net. At Aalborg Zoo, you can experience wild animals from around the world, learn about their way of life and take part in activities for the whole family.

Views and Destinations Beyond the Centre

From the summit of Aalborgtårnet, you can enjoy views over Aalborg, the Limfjord and the landscape of North Jutland. The Egholm ferry connects Aalborg with Egholm; the crossing takes five minutes. For regional orientation, you can also include Nørresundby, Klarup, Gandrup, Binderup, Vestbjerg, Dokkedal and Kongerslev in your plans.
