Kongerslev: Hilly Landscape, Lille Vildmose and Views over the Kattegat

Steeply hilly terrain and the proximity to Lille Vildmose characterise Kongerslev. For cycling travellers, the relief is one of the visible features of the locality and can be taken into account when planning a day outdoors. At the same time, Lille Vildmose is located close to Kongerslev. On a cycling tour, the terrain is therefore part of the practical day planning, while the Vildmose offers a second landscape connection in the surrounding area.

Nature at Mølledam

In the old centre of Kongerslev, Mølledam has a recreational area with tables and opportunities for playing and fishing. The location by Mølledam is therefore directly connected to the old centre of Kongerslev.

Mølledam is also a place designated by Aalborg Municipality for outdoor ice skating, provided that a sign indicates that the ice surface is open for use. An ice thickness of at least 13 cm is used as the standard for this activity. Anyone planning to go ice skating must therefore take into account both the approval indicated by the sign and the minimum thickness of the ice surface.

Kongerslev Nature Park offers opportunities for recreation and areas for playing. In addition to Mølledam, it thus provides another specific natural setting for spending time outdoors.

Views and beaches in the surrounding area

Præstegårdshede, with its Bronze Age burial mounds, offers views across the moor, Mulbjergene, Tofte Skov and the Kattegat. Visitors interested in culture can take the historical connection to the Bronze Age into account alongside the landscape views. For active travellers, this view offers a different point of reference from the hilly terrain in Kongerslev: here, the long-distance view is the focus, while there, it is the terrain.

The public beach at Mulbjerg is located in the vicinity of Kongerslev, while Bisnap Strand lies in the wider regional surroundings of Kongerslev. In relation to Kongerslev, Mulbjerg therefore represents the nearby beach, while Bisnap Strand has a broader regional connection. This spatial distinction can be taken into account when planning a day on the coast.

Church and railway history

Sønder Kongerslev Church is located in the southern part of Kongerslev. It consists of a Romanesque chancel and a Romanesque nave; its tower is octagonal and has a pyramidal roof. The Romanesque building elements and the distinctive shape of the tower define its architectural character.

Kongerslev played a central role in regional railway transport when the Hadsundbanen opened on 1 December 1900. From the outset, Kongerslev Station was equipped with loading tracks, a pigsty and a siding with a head ramp. The railway was used to transport peat from Vildmosen to Aalborg. There, the peat was used as an energy source for the city power station and cement factories. The peat thus travelled from Vildmosen to uses in Aalborg that involved both energy supply and the manufacture of cement.
