Baroque History in Heinrichsruh

From 1750 to 1752, Christoph Ludwig Henrici created Heinrichsruh Manor House as his retirement residence; the Heinrichsruh Baroque Garden was also created there during this period. The estate is considered an authentic late Baroque monument. The listed manor house is a three-winged Baroque complex with a courtyard of honour and timber-frame construction. Heinrichsruh is therefore home not merely to a single historic building, but to an architectural ensemble with a clearly recognisable Baroque character. Another artistic dimension can be found in the garden hall, which is extensively decorated with works by Claudia Hauptmann. As a result, the manor house invites visitors to look beyond its architectural form and date of construction to the design of this interior as well.

Since 2000, the manor house has been home to Künstlerhaus Vorpommern. Numerous concerts, masked balls and exhibitions have been held at Heinrichsruh Estate in connection with the Vorpommern Artists’ House. The site’s history also includes a glassworks that was originally located there. The glassmaker’s house has survived on the manor house grounds to this day. The combination of the manor house, artists’ house and traces of the former glassworks gives the site’s cultural history several chronological layers.

Park, Access Avenue and Landscape

The surroundings of the manor house also help put Heinrichsruh into context. The access avenue is partly lined with yew trees that are 250 years old. The estate includes a French-style garden and peacocks. The restored park covers approximately 3 hectares.
