Rothemühl is located 13 kilometers southwest of Torgelow, on the southwestern edge of the Ueckermünde Heath and south of the Friedland Great Meadow, in gently flat terrain. Immediately south of the village rises the terminal moraine chain of the Brohmer Mountains, reaching 125 meters above sea level at Schanzenberg.

The Römerberg and Knüppelberg are located in the vicinity of Rothemühl. The surrounding area is also home to the Braune-Weiße Spring, the Wittenborner Spring, and the Schwichtenberg Erratic Boulder Garden. Schlossberg is located in the surrounding area; further afield in the region are Bröllin Castle and Blankenburg Castle Ruins.

History

In 1454, a customs station with a rest area stood at Roden Born on the border with the Uckermark. The settlement was first mentioned in 1507 as Roden Born; at that time, it had eight smallholdings and an inn. A watermill was built there after 1580.
