Vorpommern-Greifswald: Hotels and accommodations

Vorpommern-Greifswald is located in eastern Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and borders the Baltic Sea, Poland, and Brandenburg.

Geographical location

Greifswald is the district capital. Other larger centers of the district include Pasewalk, Anklam, Wolgast, Ueckermünde, and Torgelow.

The district includes a small area around Lake Galenbeck; it also extends as far as the town of Strasburg in the Uckermark.

Landscape

The southern part of the district has relatively extensive forest areas. Tree-lined avenues are characteristic of the landscape along the Haff coast and in other parts of the region.

Parts of the Ueckermünde Heath include heathland and nutrient-poor grassland. Nature reserves and retreats for white-tailed eagles are located in peripheral areas of the district.

The surrounding area includes Burgwall, Streng, Kleiner Werder, and Koos. Lubmin Beach is located in the wider regional surroundings.

Culture

In the immediate vicinity of Vorpommern-Greifswald, Greifswald is home to St. Nikolai Cathedral, St. Spiritus, and St. Jacobi.

Greifswald, the district capital, has a public research university. It was founded in 1456 and is considered the fourth-oldest university in Germany.
