Priekulė: Hotels and accommodations

Priekulė is situated on a picturesque bend of the Minija River. Its 19th-century center is characteristic of a larger town in Lithuania Minor.

Culture

The I. Simonaitytė Memorial Museum in Priekulė is housed in the writer’s summer house, where she lived and wrote during the final decades of her life. On display are authentic interiors, personal belongings, a library, manuscripts, photographs, and first editions of her books. The museum organizes educational programs, guided tours, and cultural events on the history of Lithuania Minor, Lithuanian culture, and the writer’s creative legacy.

At the Museum of the History of Freedom Struggles and Exile, the outdoor exhibition features an authentic exile wagon and a reconstructed partisan bunker. The offerings include educational activities, guided tours, and exhibitions about the partisan resistance, exile, and local cultural heritage.

History

J. F. Šrėderis and J. Traušis operated printing presses in Priekulė that produced publications in the Lithuanian language. The town center is also home to the “Šventvakarių Ėvė” monument to Ieva Simonaitytė, which commemorates the history of Lithuania Minor.

An Evangelical Lutheran congregation was founded in Priekulė toward the end of the 16th century and is considered the oldest in the Klaipėda region. Equestrian competitions for the “Edmundo Klimov Cup” are held annually in Vingio Park. The Strykis fish market operated for centuries between Priekulė and Dreverna.
