The Minija River flows alongside Gargždai and is a popular summer attraction for kayakers near Gargždai.

Culture and History

The Gargždai Regional Museum presents a permanent ethnographic exhibition covering the late 19th to the mid-20th century, the exhibition “Interwar Gargždai 1918–1939” and the exhibition “Views of Old Gargždai”, updated in 2015. The museum also features a reconstructed border area, an early 20th-century classroom and a historic post office. Educational activities are aimed at schoolchildren, adults and families.

The Gargždai pedestrian viaduct is an engineering monument of regional significance dating from the interwar period. The “Minija” cinema houses an exhibition of film and photographic equipment; new films and premieres are shown in a hall equipped with a digital projector and 3D technology.

The Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Gargždai is a postmodernist brick church built in 1989–1990. Its churchyard preserves a 19th-century stone bell tower and a Classicist chapel.

Trails and Landscape

The “Prie rubežiaus” circular trail in Gargždai can be explored independently or with a guide. Numbered information boards and map excerpts indicate the location of the next board.

Gargždai City Park was established in the first half of the 19th century on the slope of the Minija River. A stepped path leads down to the river and offers views of the Minija Valley.

Leisure

At Gargždai Youth Park, you can play disc golf using flying discs and special target baskets.
