Karrebæksminde between beach, harbour and history
Karrebæksminde combines beach, harbour, fjord and maritime history. If you are looking for accommodation in the town, you can choose between beach and nature experiences, cycling tours, water sports and historical insights.
Beach, bay and distinctive waterfront locations
Enø Beach is a Blue Flag-certified beach; the area around Karrebæksminde is also known for its beautiful sandy beach. Enø Beach can be reached by bicycle, bus, the Friheden boat or car. This means that a visit to the beach can be combined with different forms of transport when planning your day. The Enø Winter Bathing Station is located near Enø By at Karrebæksminde Bay, close to the Grasshopper Bridge and the harbour, as well as extensive natural areas by the beach. The bridge over the canal separating Enø from the mainland was designed by a local artist in the shape of a grasshopper.
Cycle routes and water activities
A 10-kilometre cycling tour from Karrebæksminde to Næstved follows Karrebæk Fjord and the canal. In addition, a wide, two-lane cycle path connects Karrebæksminde with Næstved and runs at a sufficient distance from the main road. The 10 kilometres provide a clear framework for an outing; the separate cycle path, on the other hand, serves as a connection to Næstved and runs away from the main road. This allows you to consider the tour route and connecting path separately when planning. Marineevent offers family kayaks for two people as well as sea kayaks for longer tours. It rents out regular bicycles and e-bikes for adults and children; on the calm waters of the fjord, you can try stand-up paddleboarding. Marineevent can accommodate eight people.
Fishing and local history
Karrebæksminde was established in the 19th century as a loading place for Næstved. The large warehouses in Karrebæksminde were built in 1840 and 1854. The former bathing hotel at the end of the avenue was built in 1850. The construction dates range from the early 19th century to the middle of the century and mark several historical milestones in the town's history. The Karrebæksminde Fisheries and Town Museum preserves fishing-related equipment from Karrebæksminde and collects, restores and conserves this cultural heritage. It is located in Karrebæksminde's first and oldest building, which was built from 1806 to 1809 as a materials store and residence for a caretaker.
Harbour, fishing and walking routes
Søfronten Lystbådehavn marina is located at the entrance to Karrebæksminde and offers visiting sailors, among other things, showers, toilets and Wi-Fi. In the harbour by the Karrebæksminde mole, eel fishing is possible in summer, preferably in the evening and at night. A walk leads along the beach to Strandskoven and back via Vesterhavevej and Lagunestien. This allows you to consider different priorities when choosing your accommodation: harbour, beach, cycling, water and history.
