Gelsted between forests, lakes and Herlufmagle
Gelsted focuses on nature observation, walks, views and a historic church motif. Stenskoven is located in Gelsted, Ravnstrup Sø and Herlufmagle Church are nearby, and Rendebakken is also located in Gelsted.
Gelsted and Herlufmagle
Gelsted lies at the southern entrance to Herlufmagle and has now grown together with the town. For your travel planning, this connection between the two places can be combined with scenic impressions and cultural highlights.
Forest, valley and water
In Gelsted, you can take a walk through the scenic Stenskoven. Sub-area 12a, Tunneldalen near Gelsted, Herlufmagle and Glumsø, is a small-scale, gently rolling to hilly valley landscape with a longitudinal orientation and enclosed, complex landscape areas. Numerous bodies of water, such as streams, lakes and marshes, lie on the valley floor. The walk through Stenskoven therefore takes place within a valley landscape whose bodies of water on the valley floor are just as characteristic as the gently rolling areas.
Ravnstrup Sø: Observe nature
The nearby Ravnstrup Sø nature reserve consists of a lake, reed beds, marshland, meadows, willow scrub and mature natural woodland with old, gnarled broadleaf trees. There you can observe many bird species that live in forests, scrubland, marshes and lakes. Birdwatching encompasses the forest, scrubland, marsh and lake; the bird tower and birdwatching hide serve as observation points in the reserve. There is a bird tower and a birdwatching hide for this nature experience. There is also a fire pit, a multi-purpose toilet and a reservable shelter for overnight stays. In addition to the fire pit and multi-purpose toilet, the reservable shelter provides an overnight accommodation option.
Views at Rendebakken
Rendebakken in Gelsted offers excellent views and is well worth a visit. From Rendebakken, the pylons of the Great Belt Bridge, for example, can be seen to the west. There is a newly planted forest near Rendebakken; from there, you have a good view across Gelsted Nederland. The newly planted forest adds another landscape area in the town to this viewpoint.
The connection between Næstved and Ringsted
Suså landevejen is the transport connection through the nearby area between Næstved and Ringsted; bus route 680 runs there several times an hour.
Herlufmagle Church
The nearby Herlufmagle Church also provides a distinct historical accent. It was originally built at the beginning of the 12th century from granite, with a nave and a chancel. The chancel contains six fresco paintings by Rud Pedersen from 1951. The early construction date and the frescoes from 1951 thus represent different periods. The time span between the original construction and the frescoes therefore extends from the early 12th century to 1951.
