Næstved Municipality – Discover Glass, Art and Trails

At Holmegaard Værk, traditional Danish craftsmanship and innovative design come together in the historic buildings of a glassworks. Holmegaard Værk houses the largest collection of sample glass in the Nordic countries. Visitors can watch glass artists making glass at hot glass furnaces.

Culture

The Næstved Museum is located in Helligåndshuset in the centre of Næstved. Helligåndshuset is the only surviving Helligåndshus in Denmark. The museum conveys the history of the municipality through changing exhibitions and special events.

Næstved Kunstby is a city-wide collection of graffiti works and gable paintings by international graffiti artists. The art city is based on more than 30 years of graffiti tradition in Næstved. Rønnebæksholm is Næstved’s art centre and hosts creative activities for children as well as other events.

Rønnebæksholm’s park includes Herregårdshaven and a musical nature base where visitors can experiment with sounds and melodies. Grønnegades Kaserne Kulturcenter is located in a former dragoon and hussar barracks and includes its own stages, a regional theatre and a children’s cultural centre. The cultural centre hosts concerts, exhibitions and lectures.

Family Activities and History

BonBon-Land offers family rides such as Bæver Rafting, Vandrotten and Søløven. The Gavnø Go Fly climbing park is a family activity with six courses at different heights and with varying levels of difficulty. The park at Gavnø Slot displays seasonal flowers and bulbs in full bloom. Gavnø Slot offers unique historical insights into the diverse stories of the past.

Nature and Trails

The Suså River flows through Næstved Municipality. Canoeing is possible on the Suså River between Vetterslev and Næstved. Herlufsholm Forest offers a walk that follows a small section of the Suså River.

The sculpture park along Næstved’s harbour promenade has a 1.2-kilometre trail that is open to everyone year-round and allows visitors to experience the sculptures on foot and by bicycle. The cycle path along the harbour promenade is part of national cycle route 8, the Baltic Sea Cycle Route. The footpath along the harbour promenade is part of the long-distance hiking trail Sjællandsleden.

Fodsporet can be used by cyclists, runners, dog walkers and inline skaters. It is a 2.5-metre-wide paved trail through varied landscapes in southwestern Zealand. A wide two-way cycle path connects Karrebæksminde and Næstved over 10 kilometres along Karrebæk Fjord and the canal.

Getting Around

There are four railway stations in Næstved Municipality, all served by regional trains. Næstved Station is centrally located in Næstved and offers connections throughout Denmark via DSB regional trains.

The regional classification includes the place and municipality names Sandved, Næstved, Menstrup, Glumsø, Gelsted, Fuglebjerg Municipality, Karrebæksminde, Tappernøje, Holmegaard and Holme Olstrup.
