Lerum between lakes, nature and industrial heritage

The Lerådalen nature reserve encompasses a large part of the Lerån Valley in the open agricultural landscape between Lerum and Stenkullen. It can be reached on foot or by bicycle via the cycle path between Lerum and Gråbo. Lake Mjörn has a large surface area, an archipelago landscape, shores and diverse fish and birdlife.

Nature and bodies of water

The Lerådalen nature reserve has marked trails, information boards and an information brochure. The Säveån offers good opportunities for walks and sport fishing in Lerum Municipality.

Vite mosse in Vättlefjäll is an area of national interest for nature conservation. Nightjars can be observed or heard there; the rare marsh gentian species Klockgentiana also grows there.

The Nääs Ekhagar nature reserve lies between Floda and Nääs and comprises ancient oaks, open grazing land and deciduous forests. The fauna of the old, gnarled oaks is considered unique even by European standards.

Nääs Ekhagar has walking paths, several bathing spots and the Nääsbadet beach area. The Gotaleden stage between Floda and Tollered passes through Nääs Ekhagar.

The Härskogen nature reserve lies at Lakes Stora Härsjön and Lilla Härsjön on the border between the municipalities of Lerum and Härryda. Tre Knallar is a three-kilometre-long, hilly trail that runs over the elevations of Kokullen, Meteberget and Höga kullen.

Lilla Härsjörundan is a nine-kilometre-long trail on gravel paths or gravel roads in the Härskogen nature reserve. Stora Härsjörundan is 13.5 kilometres long and runs mostly along roads and easily walkable paths; in some places there are roots and rocks.

A hiking trail of approximately five kilometres runs through the Säveån nature reserve and can be reached from both Floda railway station and Stenkullen railway station.

Rammdalen has a dramatic, wilderness-like landscape with a distinctive rift gorge, steep rock faces and Lake Rammsjön. Risvedenspåret is a trail through Rammdalen that begins in Sjövik and continues through the protected area towards Ljusevattnet and Klevsjö Loft.

The Hulan nature reserve has a mature oak forest that was formerly used as a park and pastureland. The slopes from Hulan to Aspen have cultural-historical value and are representative of the summer-house landscape of the second half of the 19th century. Hulan is most easily reached from Aspen railway station or via the road along the shore between Lerum and Jonsered.

Culture and history

Hillefors grynkvarn in Stenkullen is a water-powered oat mill, a listed building and a museum of labour and industrial history. Hillefors grynkvarn offers bookable guided tours, Kvarndagar held annually in spring and Kulturarvsdagar held in autumn.

Tollereds Öfvre Kraftstation is a preserved museum dedicated to the history of hydropower. It opens for booked groups and for the general public on special visiting days.

With its industrial facilities dating from the 1830s onwards and the associated residential buildings, Tollered is one of Sweden’s best-preserved early industrial environments.

The castle setting of Nääs and the Seminarieområde, together with the green cultural heritage, form Västsverland’s largest listed cultural heritage site. Nääs is one of Sweden’s largest listed cultural heritage sites and has an adjoining nature reserve.

At Nääs, guided tours, courses in crafts and related fields, and exhibitions are offered at the Centre for Building Conservation. Near Skallsjö by, beside the prehistoric walking trail, lies the noteworthy medieval church ruin of Skallsjö.

Växtrum comprises eleven free-to-visit mini-parks or meeting places in central Lerum, which are open at all times.
