Fiskebäck combines maritime history with a sea swimming area and a clearly structured coastal landscape. This makes the area suitable for different interests: the harbour reveals the development of fishing, while swimming, playing and kayaking take centre stage by the water, and Valeberget and the Fiskebäck valley define the area’s character.

Fiskebäck Harbour is now Sweden’s largest fishing village. The harbour was built on the same site as an older fishing village and illustrates the transition from small-scale farming and fishing to industrial activity in the second half of the 20th century. This historical development is not merely an abstract backdrop; it shapes the harbour’s significance as a tangible place between the older fishing settlement and later industrial activity.

Valeberget forms a boundary between western Fiskebäck and the sea. To the east, the Fiskebäck valley consists mainly of arable land and meadows. Thus, the maritime space of the harbour and coast is set against the open areas of the valley. To the north, the harbour area transitions into a small boat harbour.

Beach Playground and Sea Swimming Area

The beach playground in Fiskebäck is located by the shore. Its coarse-grained sand surface distinguishes it from an ordinary paved play area and keeps the setting right by the water. The site also includes a barbecue area and picnic tables. Swings and a hammock swing provide opportunities for movement. This single location therefore combines play facilities with designated opportunities for sitting, picnicking and barbecuing.

Fiskebäcksbadet is a sea swimming area with good conditions for winter swimming. These include supervision as well as suitable ladders or steps. The swimming area therefore represents not only a seaside visit during the warmer months but is also explicitly associated with winter swimming.
