Lake Wanderup is designated as a suggested starting point for the 4.9-kilometre Wanderup Lake Tour. The publicly accessible body of water has toilets, changing rooms, an outdoor shower, a volleyball court, a large lawn and free parking.

Nature

A paved path leads to a waterside platform with seating and storage space; there is a handrail there for entering the lake.

The 43-kilometre Great Inland Tour includes Wanderup and runs through a wide hedgerow landscape and small villages.

Leisure

Wichtelpark is a year-round park. Wooden gnomes can be discovered alongside the paths, on a bench and in the treetops.

Culture

Wanderup Church is a Romanesque fieldstone church that probably dates from before 1200. After the original building became too small, the church was extended to the west. The wooden bell tower was built in 1754 after lightning destroyed the former tower and bell.

Two original Romanesque windows have been preserved on the north side. In the past, the church served as a refuge during attacks. A former sacrament niche is set into the north wall of the chancel; it was later converted into an offering box. A striking money chute made from an iron spoon is associated with charitable donations from the village.

The Wanderup Local History Museum was founded in 1971 to document the history and development of a Geest village. It is located in the former teacher's apartment of a school building dating from 1859. The complex includes the Dämpferhalle, an exhibition hall for large agricultural machines; further agricultural equipment is displayed outdoors. The museum presents local history from around 1800 onwards, as well as a collection of native wildlife, textiles and household appliances.

Townscape

Wanderup has preserved the form of a typical linear village; some houses still have thatched roofs.
