The dune at Rimmelsberg is a 17-hectare FFH area in Schleswig-Holstein and belongs to the Natura 2000 network as well as the Dünen am Rimmelsberg FFH area. It is described as an area connected by grassland, with heathland and coppice vegetation. Juniper bushes, sandy heathland and extensively used grassland can be found there.

Nature

At the center of the dune at Rimmelsberg lies a horseshoe-shaped depression. The dune and its historic oak coppice provide a refuge for rare plants and animals. The area has been protected since 1938 and is freely accessible at all times.

Hiking

The Jörl Landscape Trail is a well-signposted circular hiking trail of approximately 10 kilometers. Thirteen information boards focus on regional history and geology. The trail can be shortened between Rupel and Großjörl. The Paulsgabe gas station is named as a recommended starting point; parking is available there for cars and bicycles. There are no refreshment facilities along the route.
