Natural Beach and Woodland by the Water

Steinberghaff has a natural beach with sandy, pebbly and grassy sections. At Steinberghaff, the woodland extends directly to the water, giving the landscape its varied character. The Steinberghaff campsite is also located directly on the Baltic Sea's natural beach at the Geltinger Bucht. Hiking and cycling paths run past it; its facilities include a small playground, a sauna, a fitness room and a small restaurant. The woodland edge thus complements the natural beach with a vegetated coastal margin that can be perceived as a distinct section of the landscape when walking by the water.

Swimming and Cycling along the Coast

Steinberghaff beach has a designated section for swimmers and is freely accessible. The Baltic Sea Cycle Route runs directly along the coast of Steinberghaff. When planning your day, you can treat swimming at the beach and a ride along the coastal cycle path as separate activities without changing coastal locations.

Water Sports in the Geltinger Bucht

Sailing, diving, surfing, water skiing and motorboating take place in the Geltinger Bucht. The Yachtclub Steinberghaff e.V. is located on the Flensburg Outer Fjord in the Geltinger Bucht. The bay is a water sports area with plenty of space and strong winds. Denmark is close by, and there is access to the open Baltic Sea. The sailing area of the Seglergemeinschaft Steinberghaff e.V. is one of the most beautiful sailing areas in northern Germany. It appeals both to dinghy sailors and to enthusiasts of “cruisers”. Strong winds and access to the open Baltic Sea are specific conditions that can be taken into account when planning a day of water sports.

Hike with Coastal Views and Fish Sandwiches

The “Secluded Beaches around Norgaardholz” hike passes through the small villages of Norgaardholz and Steinbergholz. At the edge of Fischerholz, it returns to the coast. It also passes the Fischerkrog at the Steinberghaff campsite. There, you can eat a fish sandwich before the final few kilometres. Those planning a break along the route can schedule this stop before the final section.

Landmarks and Traces of Coastal History

A very old oak tree is considered a landmark of Steinberghaff by many people. At the Steinberger Haff, two stones are regarded as the last witnesses to one of the most severe storm surges ever experienced by the coast. Those interested in culture can see both the very old oak tree and the two storm-surge stones as distinct points of interest during walks or cycle rides.
