Steinberg is located directly on the Flensburg Fjord and offers views towards Denmark. The town has around eight kilometres of varied natural and activity beach; the inland area is characterised by the hilly landscape of Angeln.
Habernis Beach is located in the vicinity of Steinberg. In the wider regional surroundings of Steinberg are Solitüde, Edelsturm Ruin, Ruethstein, Sønderhav Beach and Kleiner Flintholm. Sieverstedt, St. Petri Church is also located in the wider regional surroundings of Steinberg. Tolkschau is another place in this wider regional area.

The municipality promotes cycling and hiking routes along the beach and through the inland area.

Visitor facilities include three campsites with a total of 500 pitches, restaurants, the Kulturscheune Oestergaard cultural centre and the Norgaardholz bathing facility with the participation of the DLRG.
