Rumohr: Hotels and Accommodations

Rumohr is partly located within Westensee Nature Park. The nature park is in the immediate vicinity of Rumohr and features a landscape shaped by the Ice Age, with gentle hills, valleys, meadows, forests, lakes, and marshes.

Nature and Trails

Marshland areas have been preserved in Rumohr and in the district of Rotenhahn. The nearby Westensee Nature Park includes small nature reserves as well as forest trails with information boards.

The European long-distance hiking trail E1 runs through the municipality of Rumohr. The North–Baltic Sea hiking trail also passes through Rumohr; in addition, a route of the Hiking Association of Northern Germany also crosses the municipality. In the Westensee Nature Park tourism area, 17 circular hiking trails are mapped. There are marked hiking trails, public field and forest paths, and four themed cycling routes.

Canoe and kayak trips on the Eiderring Canal can lead toward the North–Baltic Sea Canal or Westensee. The Tüteberg viewpoint offers panoramic views across Westensee toward Kiel.

History and Coat of Arms

Rumohr was documented in 1245 under the name Rummore. The name Rumohr is derived from the phrase “rough marsh,” that is, a term for a rough marsh.

The municipal coat of arms also refers to the landscape: the wavy bar in Rumohr’s coat of arms represents the municipality’s marshland. The two herons are understood as a reference to the districts of Rumohr and Rotenhahn.
