Haby: Hotels and Accommodation

At the intersection of Eckernförder Straße and Wiehenredder, the preserved Friedenseiche ensemble stands in Haby. It includes a stone bearing the inscription “Peace! 1870–71”.

History

A historic ensemble has also been preserved in the village square: an original twin oak and a memorial stone stand there. On the large village square, a Unity Oak and a memorial stone commemorate German reunification on 3 October 1990. The memorial trees can be found during a short walk through the village.

Haby was first documented in 1283 under the historical spelling “Hagebe”. Finds from burial chambers and megalithic tombs in the surrounding area indicate early human activity. The partially preserved Alte Kirchweg near Haby connected Haby with Sehestedt for church services and other cultural events. Three stepping stones still indicate the northern section of the historic path.

Paths and Routes

There are five long-distance cycle paths, five e-bike tours and twelve themed routes in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district. Haby is listed as one of the starting points for the “Wittensee–Goosefeld–Holtsee–Kiel Canal” circular cycle tour.

The “Groß Wittensee–Schlaukweg–Haby” route is an approximately 8 km walking trail with a duration of around two hours. It initially follows Lake Wittensee and passes a bathing area. This route also allows visitors to reach Haby through the meadow landscape of the Habyer Au. The path also runs through the Haby recreational forest, where the Brobach meanders naturally.

Local

The long-established Blumen Colmorgen horticultural business grows flowers in a greenhouse and operates an on-site shop selling plants, gardening materials and floristry services.

UnsHabyLand offers sheep’s wool, hand-spun yarn and a spinning circle. The business also includes a farm shop selling products from its own animals. The focus is on the use and preservation of old livestock breeds, including sheep and other farm animals.

The Hüttener Berge Nature Park’s explorer backpack is available in Haby in cooperation with the Lehmsiek restaurant.

Food and Drink

The Haby-Krog country inn serves fresh country cooking in Haby, in the Hüttener Berge Nature Park. Its cuisine combines modern Mediterranean dishes with regional country cooking. Herbs from its own herb garden are used in the dishes; the inn also offers handmade pralines. The country inn states that it sources most of its vegetables and lettuce from organic farms in the region.
