Achterwehr: Hotels and Accommodations

Achterwehr has a public bathing area on Lake Ahrensee with a small sandy beach and a lawn for sunbathing, swimming, and relaxing in summer.

Water

Achterwehr has the only identified public launch site for paddlecraft in the area of Lake Westensee. Access to the lake is subject to nature conservation regulations; in some cases, a valid RSVW permit is required.

Canoe and kayak tours on the Eiderring Canal can reach the Kiel Canal or Lake Westensee.

Nature

Lake Ahrensee lies within the Ahrensee nature reserve. Large parts of Achterwehr are located in landscape or nature reserves and belong to Westensee Nature Park.

Hohenberg is located in the vicinity of Achterwehr. Lehmberg, Tüteberg, and Elandsberg are also located in the surrounding area.

Cycling and Hiking

The Eiderring Canal is part of Cycling Route 4 in Westensee Nature Park and Hiking Map Route 1. Four themed cycling routes run through Westensee Nature Park, and guided cycling tours also lead to viewpoints and sights there.

The approximately 35-kilometre-long nature park hiking trail runs through Quarnbek, Achterwehr, Felde, and Westensee.

Culture

The GAK – Gallery of Contemporary Art is a cultural meeting place for artists and art-interested visitors and presents changing exhibitions in Achterwehr’s former primary school.

The wildlife park is located in the surrounding area of Achterwehr. The wider regional area includes the Naval Memorial, Laboe, the Herb Museum, and Neumünster Kreuzkirche.
