Rold: Forest Trails, Hærvejen and Circus History

If you would like to combine forest activities and culture during your stay, Rold offers various opportunities to do so: In the immediate area, marked hiking trails can be found in Rold Skov, while Cirkusmuseet i Rold and Rold Church add historical and cultural highlights. In the immediate area, the Rold Skov MTB area offers a total network of 50 km of trails with around 1,000 metres of elevation gain, as well as a dedicated downhill course and an MTB skills area. The two figures describe different focuses: The MTB area represents a designated cycling network, while the forest offers marked trails for walking.

Hærvejen and Cultural History

The Hærvejen cycle route runs through Døstrup, Rold and Arden and continues to Store Økssø in Rold Skov. The Hærvejen routes can be experienced by bicycle or on foot and run along paved, gravel and forest roads. The routes therefore include both cycling routes and paths for getting around on foot, with different types of surfaces.

The history of the area includes the former country road Roldvej through the forest from Rold to Skørping. Cirkusmuseet i Rold is housed in the former winter quarters of Cirkus Miehe and is located in Denmark’s only surviving wooden circus building. Visitors can try circus arts there, have their faces painted as circus clowns, make their own juggling balls and then perform in Cirkus Miehe’s old riding house. Rold Church is a well-preserved Late Romanesque or Early Gothic church with later additions and alterations.

Bus Connections and Protected Areas

In the immediate area, there are bus connections with a stop in Rold and additional stops, including in Rebild and Ã…restrup. In addition to Rold, the connections include places in the surrounding region.
