Østervrå: Cycling Routes, PixlArt and Historic Bridge
Several cycling routes pass through Østervrå. The regional cycling route Tannisbugtruten runs from Østervrå to Skiveren; in Østervrå, there is also a connection to the Hærvejen cycling route. On the final section to Østervrå, the route crosses a large, open plateau with expansive views across the landscape of Midtvendsyssel. This is where the end of an old fjord arm called Volstrupsletten is located. The open landscape characterises the final section of the route to Østervrå.
Cycling and Open Countryside
At Hærvejspladsen Østervrå, a 5-km-long nature trail runs through the local biodiversity forest. The MTB loop in Østervrå is just under 5 km long. The two options are similar in length, but differ in terms of trail type: here, a nature trail runs through the biodiversity forest, while there, an MTB loop follows its route. The biodiversity forest and the MTB loop are both located in the vicinity of Østervrå.
Renaissance Bridge and Hiking Trails
Kvaderstensbroen is a historic stone bridge from the Renaissance and was built around the year 1600. The Hærvejen crosses Nymølle Bæk at the bridge. In the area around Kvaderstensbroen, there are hiking trails measuring 3 and 4 km respectively. The 3- and 4-km hiking trails are therefore shorter than the 5-km-long trail and the loop of just under 5 km.
Church and Artistic Design
Østervrå Kirke was built in 1900 in the Neo-Romanesque style, based on plans by the architect Frits Uldall. In 1996, the artist Arne Lundsteen Hansen created the new altar design and ceiling decoration featuring the work “VEJENE” in Østervrå Kirke.
Photographic Art on Large Screens
PixlArt opened in a converted church in 2015. PixlArt conveys photographic art using new technology and presents, among other things, digital images by Danish and international artists on large screens. The photographic art is presented as a digital display on large screens. The converted church serves as the venue for this digital form of photographic presentation.
Swimming, Spa and Steam Room
Østervrå Idræts- og Kulturcenter has a 25-metre swimming pool with water heated to 29°C. The swimming hall at Østervrå Idræts- og Kulturcenter also has a spa and a steam room. At the centre, the spa and steam room complement the 25-metre swimming pool.
Distances for Active Days
The 5-km-long trail through the biodiversity forest, the MTB loop of just under 5 km, and the 3- and 4-km hiking trails at Kvaderstensbroen offer different distances for cycling and hiking days in Østervrå. Anyone comparing cycling and hiking in Østervrå can match the distance directly to the respective trail type. The distances can therefore be considered separately for an active day.
