Hundslund: Trails, Church and Expansive Åkjær Fields

Hundslund can be explored through its specific trails and historic local landmarks. Banestien ved Hundslund is a public path on part of the disused railway line between Odder and Horsens. The former railway track shapes the course of the path as a link between Odder and Horsens. The Hundslund-Åkjær Nature Trail offers a different landscape experience. On parts of the nature trail, there are expansive views across the fields of Åkjær Estate. The view is available only from parts of the nature trail and not from the entire route. Visitors who want to experience Hundslund through its trails therefore have two distinct points of access: a route along a historic railway track and a nature trail with open views across the fields.

Circular Route between Sondrup and Torup

Torup-Sondrup Kirkesti is a marked circular route between Sondrup and Torup, measuring 3.8 km. It can be started at several points. Hundslund Hallen in Torup, at Torupvej 39, is considered a suitable starting point; the route passes directly by the hall. For active days in Hundslund, Kirkesti can be planned with a fixed distance and a specific starting point. The combination of a circular route, its length and several possible starting points provides a clear framework for navigating this trail. The address at Torupvej 39 places the starting point in Torup and complements the route's direct passage by the hall.

Shelters and Nature Playground

At Aktivitetspladsen ved Hundslund Hallen, there are three shelters that can be used freely for a small fee, as well as a large shelter with seating. The three shelters and the large shelter offer different opportunities for a break outdoors, with the seating explicitly belonging to the large shelter. Visitors planning a rest at this site can choose between the shelters and the large shelter with seating. Naturlegepladsen is a nature playground in Hundslund.

Romanesque Church and Churchyard

Hundslund Kirke is a Romanesque church dating from the late 12th century. Inside the church stands a distinctive Romanesque granite baptismal font with a lion motif and interlaced carvings. At the entrance to the churchyard, the three Vildtbanestenene ved Hundslund Kirke form a prominent feature. Their inscriptions give 1757 as the year the stones were made. The Vildtbanestenene originally stood at Åkjær, very close to Hundslund, and were later relocated. The year 1757 refers to the making of the stones, not to the construction year of the Romanesque church. The baptismal font stands inside the church, while the Vildtbanestenene stand at the entrance to the churchyard. Culture enthusiasts can therefore find specific details about the church and the stones at clearly distinguishable locations.

If you would subsequently like to expand your selection beyond Hundslund, you can also visit Dyngby, Rude, Sondrup Strand, Spøttrup, Torup, Hov, Amstrup and Odder.
