Discover Odder: Mill, Museum and Trails

In the centre of Odder lies the Odder Museum, set in a historic cultural environment centred around the old Odder Water and Steam Mill.

The Odder Water and Steam Mill

The Odder Water and Steam Mill was built in 1883. It preserves the condition from the time when production ceased in 1955, including its historic equipment and appearance. Visitors can explore historic mechanics and machinery across three floors. Inside, the technology takes centre stage. The three floors provide a clearly defined spatial framework for the visit. The mill is considered a rare example of the so-called half-height mill type; in Odder, the public has access to a mill of this type.

The Stuehus and Ceramics Collection

The Møllerens Stuehus is believed to have originally belonged to the old Sandager Mill; some of the exhibitions in the building deal with the history of this mill. The Bjørnkærsættet is a ceramics collection. Experts believe that it originates from a distillation apparatus dating from the late 14th century. If it is indeed such an apparatus, it would be the oldest surviving example of its kind in Scandinavia.

Odder Church and Prydhaven

Odder Church was built in the second half of the 12th century at a site where there was then a ford across the Odder Ã… and roads from the north, south, east and west met. Fragments of 14th-century murals can be seen inside the church.

Prydhaven lies between the historic buildings of the Odder Museum. The small garden is designed as a typical rural garden from 1930. Perennials, bulbous plants and roses bloom there from early spring until late autumn. The flowering season extends across several seasons and gives the garden its own temporal framework throughout the year.

Signposted Trails through Odder

Hjertestien in Odder is a 5.7-kilometre signposted walking route through the town centre. Its fixed length provides a clearly defined scope for planning a walk. Skattejagten Odder Rundt is a family activity with a 4-kilometre route through the centre of Odder, where participants solve tasks and answer questions. The four kilometres provide a clear route framework for the tasks and questions.

Vejlskoven has a network of forest paths suitable for walking. In Vejlskoven, orientation instead follows the network of forest paths rather than a single stated route length. Kulturringens rute tre is a 19-kilometre signposted cycle route that leads south from Odder towards Horsens Fjord. The 19 kilometres provide a longer framework for the journey south than the paths in the town centre. The Banestien Horsens-Odder ends at Odder railway station, exactly where the train to Horsens used to depart.
