Lassan: Hotels and Accommodations

Lassan is a small town on the mainland near the island of Usedom in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district. The town is situated on a bay of the Peene Strait.

History and Culture

Lassan was granted town rights by the Pomeranian Duke Barnim I between 1264 and 1278. Historical records refer to the landscape name terra Lesane, documented in 1136; later forms include Lessan, Lessaz, and Lassan. In the late Middle Ages, Lassan played a role as a port of the Hanseatic town of Anklam.

The oldest parts of the St. John's Church date from the mid-13th century. It includes a late Gothic three-aisled hall church.

The museum ensemble consisting of the Lassan Mill and the Friedrich von Lösewitz Hall includes machinery, furnishings, and exhibitions on local and regional history.

Vorwerk lies north of Lassan. Historically, the village was associated with the upkeep of Lassan Castle, which was also referred to as castrum lesane.

The area around Lassan is home to Wolgast Zoo, the Trassenheide Butterfly Farm, Neidbullen, Werder, and Möwenort. Further afield in the region are Quilow Water Castle, the Trabbi Barn, and the Peenemünde Power Plant.
