Groß Lüsewitz with Castle, Lake and Nature Experiences

Groß Lüsewitz Castle is a castle complex in the Neo-Renaissance style, built between 1896 and 1898. This cultural focal point is complemented by Groß Lüsewitz Lake, the tree experience trail and events that bring the village’s history, research and shared experiences to life.

Castle Complex and Culture in the Village

Groß Lüsewitz Castle can only be visited as part of the programmes on offer. One such occasion was the 2025 Lake and Park Festival, which had already reached its 26th edition. The festival opened with an exhibition at Groß Lüsewitz Castle and a concert featuring vocals and guitar. At the Lake and Park Festival, families and younger visitors could enjoy face painting, craft stations, a bouncy castle, a giant water slide and pony rides.

The village’s history is also a regular focus. In 2026, the History Group of the Groß Lüsewitz Cultural History Association will once again meet publicly every other month. Those interested will have the opportunity to learn about the village’s history or exchange views on it. This allows you to complement your stay not only with a look at the castle complex, but also with local historical perspectives.

Tree Experience Trail and Lake

The tree experience trail in Groß Lüsewitz is open for independent exploration. You can explore it on your own with overview maps and pocket-sized tree descriptions. During a public guided tour, marked trees and botanical rarities are explained. This means you can discover the trail either independently or as part of a guided appointment.

Groß Lüsewitz Lake is located about 400 m from the castle. Its small bathing area offers dining at the lakeside terrace and very good bathing water quality. The bathing area is child-friendly and suitable for families. Rental bicycles are also available at the castle’s holiday apartments, allowing you to explore the surrounding area. This opens up various options for planning your day: you can combine the castle complex and cultural events with time by the water, a walk along the tree experience trail or an exploration by bicycle.

Special Events and Insights

Another opportunity to gain insight into the village was the Open Day at the Groß Lüsewitz research campus. In 2025, greenhouses, laboratories and experimental plots there were opened to the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Together with the History Group, the Lake and Park Festival and the programmes at the castle, this creates a picture of Groß Lüsewitz that brings together nature, village history, research and community events.

Getting There and Exploring Without a Car

Groß Lüsewitz railway station provides a connection for travellers. The regional train runs hourly towards Wismar via Rostock and in the opposite direction to Tessin. This means you can also explore the surrounding area without a car.
