Rüting: Hotels and Accommodations

The Stepenitz flows through the entire municipality of Rüting, and its banks are protected as either nature reserves or landscape conservation areas. In the mill area, there is a large and a small millpond, which were created by damming the Stepenitz.

Culture

The Rüting watermill is a listed monument at Am Mühlenteich 2. It operated until the end of the 1950s and has been partially renovated. A Henschel-Jonval turbine is listed at the same address as part of the Rüting mill site.

The preserved mill building dates from around 1750 and contains a rare wooden turbine. The historic Rüting mill used a 5.40-meter oak waterwheel with an output of 21 horsepower. The Rüting Henschel-Jonval turbine is considered probably the last of its kind in northern Germany and the only one located in a freestanding shaft that can be visited.

Diedrichshagen is nestled in the Stepenitz valley and has preserved the character of an old farming village. Historic farmhouses, some of them thatched, form part of the village's appearance. Diedrichshagen Church contains an organ dating from 1861, built by Schwerin organ builder Friedrich Ludwig Theodor Friese. Stained-glass panels from 1601 have also been preserved there.

Nature

The fish species recorded for the Stepenitz include ide, perch, chub, pike, sea trout, and common rudd. The SFV Eisvogel Rüting e.V. has been assigned a 43.46-kilometer stretch of the Stepenitz for fishing.

The Stepenitz-Maurine Lowland Nature Reserve is part of the wider area surrounding the Stepenitz. Visitors are advised to observe this area attentively.
