Bernstorf: Hotels and accommodations

Bernstorf is predominantly agricultural in character. The village is home to a castle built in 1881 in the Neo-Renaissance style.

Culture

Until 1990, Bernstorf Castle was used for various purposes and was the center of village life. Until 1945, it was considered the ancestral seat of the von Bernstorff family. Today, Bernstorf Castle is considered a venue for weddings; it is located at Am Schloss 5 in Bernstorf.

In the castle park on the southwestern edge of the forest near Bernstorf stands an atonement stone dating from 1359. It depicts Christ on the cross, bears the coat of arms of the Counts of Bernstorf and inscription bands. The stone is 2.20 meters high and 63 centimeters wide and was moved from Börzow to Bernstorf in 1829. A 163-kilometer archaeological day excursion from Wismar also includes the atonement stone in Bernstorf.

Landscape

In Jeese, imposing houses are arranged in a circle around the village pond; some of them still have thatched roofs. In Strohkirchen, there are several listed settlement houses dating from around 1925, whose style was inspired by southern German models.

On the way

The well-developed local connecting roads invite you to go on bike tours. A ride from Wölschendorf to Vitense along a hollow way is particularly recommended.

In the surrounding area, a bike tour leads across historic farmland and through the Köchelstorfer Mühle landscape conservation area before reaching Lake Wedendorf. The bike tour at Lake Wedendorf also offers views from Klingenberg near Brützkow.
