Laukžemė: Hotels and Accommodation

The Laukžemė Madonna is a Gothic wooden sculpture dating from around 1420 and is considered the oldest surviving wooden sculpture in Samogitia.

Culture and History

The present wooden Church of St. Andrew in Laukžemė was built in 1850. It stands on a small hill by the valley of the Kulšė stream; its bell was cast in 1740.

Laukžemė developed around its estate at the beginning of the 16th century. The surviving Laukžemė manor house was built in 1903 under the von Stempel family. The estate grounds include a park, an orchard, and three ponds. A granary dating from the 19th century, which is an architectural monument, has also been preserved there.

Water and Nature

The Kulšė, a tributary of the Šventoji, flows through Laukžemė. The pink erratic boulder “Pelėkiai Stone”, also known as “Devil Stone”, can be found in the valleys of the Kulšė’s source.

Nearby, 1 km northeast of Laukžemė, lies the “Sėdūnai Zoological Reserve”. Pelėkiai, which is considered a natural monument, is also located 1 km northeast.

Cycling Route

A cycling route of approximately 37 km through the Darbėnai area passes through Laukžemė and continues to N. Įpiltis.

Laukžemė is located in Lithuania at approximately 56.070, 21.203, about 20 km northeast of Šventoji. Palanga International Airport is considered the nearest airport; it is approximately 22 km from Laukžemė.
