In Oskarshamn, Småland’s forests meet the sea. The surrounding area is home to more than 6,000 islands and 533 lakes; the Municipality of Oskarshamn also offers more than 20 swimming spots.

Landscape and Trails

The Strandpromenaden Camping till camping trail can be used on foot, for running or by bicycle, and is also suitable for prams and mobility aids. On Uvö, an approximately 2.2-kilometre nature trail leads through the landscape. There are benches along the trail, as well as a designated barbecue area.

The Havslätt recreational area has three fitness and exercise trails measuring 7.3, 5.0 and 2.4 kilometres. The area also includes an outdoor gym, a motor skills course and a barbecue shelter. Oskarshamn’s disc golf course is located in the city park near the open-air stage.

Döderhultarns stig has a different trail surface: the trail is partly hilly and unsuitable for prams, wheelchairs and people with reduced mobility.

Harbour and Islands

Oskarshamn’s guest harbour at Brädholmen has 80 to 100 berths for visiting boats. Toilets, showers, fuel and bicycle hire are available there. In summer, from Midsummer to mid-August, an excursion boat runs daily from Oskarshamn harbour to the national park island of Blå Jungfrun; the crossing takes approximately 1.5 hours.

Destination Gotland operates a year-round ferry service between Oskarshamn and Visby.

Culture and History

The Döderhultarmuseet displays a collection of nearly 200 wooden sculptures by Döderhultarn. The artist lived and worked in Oskarshamn and later became internationally known.

The Sjöfartsmuseet presents the development of maritime activity in the Oskarshamn region. Exhibits include items from specialised crafts, ship models and navigation equipment. The museum also has a children’s area on the theme of ships, featuring the galley and wheelhouse of the Thyra.

Oskarshamn Konsthall presents changing exhibitions of Swedish contemporary art, as well as photography, handicrafts and cultural history. The photography exhibition “Ögonblick från Oscarshamn” depicts the history and development of Oskarshamn from 1890 to 1970, covering topics including the harbour, Fredriksbergs herrgård, small businesses, culture and entertainment.

Fredriksbergs herrgård was built in 1783 and presents architecture, art and furniture craftsmanship from the Gustavian era. The manor house also houses an 18th-century mineral collection. Stensjö by is the first cultural reserve in Kalmar County and was established in 2020.

As part of the Oskarshamn Street Art project, building façades in Oskarshamn were transformed into colourful murals.
