Figeholm – Forest, Water and Maritime History

Figeholm combines protected nature, waterways, harbour life and maritime history. When choosing where to stay, you can therefore consider different focuses: narrow paths through the forest, walks along the Norrån, the guest harbour or the preserved traces of a traditional sailing community.

Nature Between Forest and Water

In the Figeholm nature reserve, you can hike along narrow paths through the deep forest. This offers a distinct, nature-focused way to experience the area and differs clearly from the maritime themes surrounding the harbour and sailing. The Stenhagen grove is also now part of the Figeholm Natura 2000 site. This means that Figeholm offers both a nature reserve and an area classified under the European nature conservation framework as part of the ways to experience the area. Another route follows the Norrån watercourse, passing the Hamnmagasinet and continuing to a body of water created by local residents. The route combines water, local history and a specific walk without requiring a single thematic focus. The Bredviken campsite is documented as being directly by the shore.

Harbour and Sailing

Figeholm's guest harbour has 30 visitor berths, 10 of them in the outer harbour. The outer harbour therefore contains one third of the guest harbour's total 30 visitor berths in Figeholm. The area's sailing profile also includes Figeholms Båtklubb: it has organised sailing schools in Figeholm since the 1970s and is certified by Svenska Seglarförbundet to conduct an SSF sailing school. Figeholms Båtklubb's traditional sailing week takes place during the first week of the summer holidays on the club's own island, Seglarholmen. This information describes a special venue and a fixed period within the summer holidays. Figeholm was also once home to hundreds of sailing ships. This historical classification refers to the area's past and should not be understood as a current fleet or harbour statistic.

Maritime Heritage and Townscape

The Figeholm Maritime Museum is housed in a two-storey warehouse building dating from the beginning of the 19th century. The building itself is therefore part of the maritime narrative. The area also has many well-preserved houses and surroundings to enjoy. Near the shop in Figeholm are several small, picturesque fishermen's huts. Those who pay attention not only to nature and water but also to architectural forms, older parts of the area and maritime memories will find several different points of connection here.

Active Addition

Figeholm has a 200-square-metre outdoor gym made of larch wood, built in 2020. It complements the nature- and water-based options with a clearly designated place for exercise. Together with the forest area, the path along the Norrån and the sailing activities, this creates a broad but specifically documented picture of the experiences available in Figeholm.
