Between the moorland, hat hills and coast, Sædballe Fredmose presents a landscape with a clear focus on nature. A ridge of Langeland hat hills extends into Sædballe Fredmose from the south and offers views across the moorland. The ridge and moorland therefore define the area’s characteristic landscape impression.

From the southern hat hill elevation, which projects like a peninsula into the southern part of the moor, birds can be observed without disturbing birdlife. The carnivorous bladderwort plant also grows in Sædballe Fredmose. The birdlife and this distinctive moorland vegetation give the nature experience two different focal points.

Paths through the landscape and to the coast

Sædballe Fredmose can be reached via existing country lanes. From Nordenbro, follow the road eastwards towards Sædballe; after about 1 kilometre, a country lane leads off to the left into the moor. The country lane marks the transition from the road into the moorland area and provides a clear point of orientation for visiting the landscape.

A walk through Sædballe can be combined with a visit to the Fredmose landscape and the coast at the end of Paradisvejen. At Fredmose, the petanque court is located directly on the coast at the end of Paradisvej; several table-and-bench sets are available there. The playground with sea views at Fredmose is also located directly on the coast at the end of Paradisvej. It has swings, a sandbox, a seesaw and a small slide. This means that walking, play and a sociable activity come together at specific locations along this stretch of coast.

On the beach south of Fredmose by Bovballe Skov is the fishing spot “Fredmose – Havørred Fyn Hotspot nr. 55”. In summer, grey mullet may be found there. In winter, the freshwater at the fishing spot may attract sea trout. These different seasonal aspects also make the coastal location relevant to anglers interested in particular times of year.

Public toilets are located 800 metres north of the recreational area at Fredmose in Bukkemose. The reference point is therefore north of the recreational area and not directly beside it.

Local history and coastal life

The history of Sædballe can also be explored through two different points of reference. Garnhuset ved Østerskov is a reconstructed former net-making house from 1920 and houses a small exhibition about the local population and their life on the coast. Sædballe was first mentioned in 1237. The historical perspective thus extends from the town’s early mention to coastal life at Garnhuset ved Østerskov.
