Aborg: Beach, Lagoon and Cycling Route

Aborg Beach lies in the Little Belt opposite the southern part of Bågø. It is one of a total of six bathing-spot beaches in Assens Municipality and has a shallow bathing area with a bathing jetty. Its location in the Belt and its position opposite Bågø place the beach in a distinctly maritime setting. For days at the beach, the shallow bathing area and bathing jetty define the immediate coastal stretch.

Beach and Coastal Landscape

Aborg Beach is a spring fishing spot with a deep depression beneath the shore. There used to be a very small fishing site at Aborgminde Beach. The spring connection gives the beach a seasonal focus, while the former fishing site is part of the history of the shoreline. The deep depression beneath the shore remains a characteristic of the fishing spot; at Aborgminde Beach, the former use is the main focus.

Aborg Minde Nor is a very shallow coastal lagoon. Aborg Nor is home to a rich variety of birdlife, including white-tailed eagles, snipes, common sandpipers, and various ducks and geese. The dam at Aborg Nor was built in 1913 to prevent flooding by saltwater from the Little Belt. At Aborg Nor, the birdlife and the dam are located at the same coastal point. The Little Belt also provides the geographical setting for the beach, lagoon and the later outlet of the Puge Mølle Å.

Cycling and Outdoor Stays

Aborg Mark lies directly on Cycle Route 8, Østersøruten. At the same time, Aborg Mark is a tent and shelter site in a rural setting near the beach. The shelters can accommodate up to 25 people, and there are also tent pitches. For cycle tourists, Aborg Mark combines route number 8, the name Østersøruten and an outdoor stay near the beach. Up to 25 people can stay in the shelters, while tent pitches are also available.

The section near Aborg Nor is marked as a path intended exclusively for bicycle traffic. The Puge Mølle Å flows into the Little Belt at Aborg Nor. During the Viking Age, boats could travel up the Puge Mølle Å. Fishing in the Puge Mølleå is possible through the local association. The historical use by boats remains limited to the Viking Age; fishing in the Puge Mølleå is managed through the local association.

Historical Traces Around Aborg

The name Aborg suggests that a castle stood at least on the southern side; ruins were also found on the northern side at Aborg. Visiting Birkelund Farm near Aborg first requires a prior arrangement and then a booking. Visitors interested in culture can explore the interpretation of the castle in the name Aborg, the ruins on the northern side and Birkelund Farm.
