Historic town on the Little Belt

In 1524, Assens was granted town privileges by King Frederik I. Assens Købstad is a well-preserved market town with historic buildings and narrow, cobbled streets. From there, there are views of the Little Belt.

Beach and accessible paths

Assens Næs Beach is located on Assens Næs west of Assens By on the Little Belt. The beach, designated as a bathing spot, is approximately 650 meters long. The accessible bathing jetty can be reached from the parking area via a paved path. Kærum Å Stien also has a section suitable for strollers and wheelchairs, leading from Assens to the bridge over the Kærum Å. A day at Assens Næs Beach can be planned precisely based on its approximate length and the paved access to the bathing jetty.

Jordbassinerne is a man-made natural area. It was created from earth materials from the Assens Sugar Factory, which operated from 1884 to 2006.

Museums, gardens and local history

Those interested in culture will find historic streets, the ERNST Museum with its apartment and garden, the Miniby and Willemoesgaarden in Assens. The ERNST Museum presents the universe of antiques, porcelain and art created by the silversmith Frederik Ernst. The museum includes a 250 m² apartment containing many thousands of objects selected by Frederik Ernst. Frederik Ernsts Have is an Italian-inspired courtyard garden belonging to the ERNST Museum. Those who want to explore the town’s history on foot can join the guided town walks offered by Museum Vestfyn. They are led by experts with extensive knowledge of the town’s history.

The Assens Miniby contains more than 130 meticulously handcrafted houses at a scale of 1:10. The first project was an exact copy of the small cookhouse on the harbor pier; the copy was made from the original drawings. The WILLEMOES Museum is located in Willemoesgaarden, the birthplace of the naval hero Willemoes, a red half-timbered building from the 17th century. It features a maritime play world for children and adults.

Harbor, pier and maritime experiences

Those interested in maritime experiences will find the marina, the Træskibskaj, the Pakhus, the lighthouse and Willemoes Bryghus with beer tastings in Assens. Assens Marina is a modern yacht harbor with 600 berths. Visiting boats can moor at all berths marked with green turning signs. The Træskibskaj in the harbor of Assens is intended primarily for traditional wooden sailing ships and larger excursion vessels. These ships cannot enter Assens Marina; when planning a harbor visit in Assens, the vessel’s size determines whether it should use the marina or the Træskibskaj.

The red Pakhus, dating from 1884, stands on the Assens pier; the small iconic lighthouse dates from 1858. At Willemoes Bryghus, visitors can enjoy beer tastings, among other experiences.
